Trenton Club Embosser |
Description |
The embosser is black and gold, half-circular in shape, with a slightly longer base than the rest of the device. A series of elevated gold bumps runs across the embosser. On the right side, there are two plates: a gold plate situated above a silver plate, with a slight gap between them. Both plates feature the same Trenton Club logo, with the gold plate showcasing an engraved version of the logo and the silver plate displaying it in an embossed form. The logo is circular and reads, "THE TRENTON CLUB. CORPORATE 1892 SEAL. TRENTON, N.J." Just above the right side of the gold plate, there is a gold inscription that reads, "PATDOCE." Below the silver plate, the area is painted red. The embosser is operated with a long lever at the top, which curves slightly near the top, resembling a wave. When the lever is pushed down, the gold plate presses onto the silver plate, embossing the item. The embosser has four holes on the bottom: two on opposite sides, which pass through to the top, and two near the center, covered by a white substance. The embosser comes with a piece of paper that features the embossed Trenton Club logo, presumably created using the embosser. This plate was made for the Trenton Club. The Trenton Free Public Library states that the Trenton Club was originally founded in 1884 as the Trenton Bicycle Club, known for cycling. In 1892, the club officially changed its name to the Trenton Club, a social and recreational organization. They moved to 479 West State Street in 1962, where the club featured a private meeting room, bar, card room, banquet room, kitchen, and gym. Membership was exclusive, with new members required to be voted in, and objections from two members could bar someone from joining. However, by 2002, membership had declined, leading to discussions about combining the club with the Trenton YMCA. These talks ultimately did not result in action, and the Trenton Club permanently closed its doors in 2013. Citations: Trenton Free Public Library. (n.d.).
