William Trent House Mug |
Description |
This beige cylindrical mug features a brown image of the William Trent House on the front, along with a footed bottom and a gold rim. The image of the house is viewed from the right corner. The building is two stories tall, with a chimney on the right side and a small tower with a flag on top near the center. The first story of the house shows seven windows-five in the front and two on the right side. The second story has six windows in total, four in the front and two on the right. Between the four front windows, there is a door with stairs and a railing, while another door is located between one of the windows on the right side. To the left of the building are four bushes and one tree, while a tree stands to the right side. The surrounding area includes grass and a walkway. Below the image, the words "THE WILLIAM TRENT HOUSE 1719" are written. The base of the mug starts with a wide circular foot that slopes into a thin cylinder as it rises towards the top. On the right side of the mug is the handle, which is shaped like a semicircle. The top of the mug is open, revealing the inside. The handle has two holes-one near the top and another near the bottom. The bottom of the mug slopes inward toward the center. According to williamtrenthouse.org, William Trent immigrated to America in the early 1690s and became a successful merchant and slave owner in Philadelphia. In 1714, Trent purchased a tract of land in western central New Jersey from Marlon Stacy and built a home there in 1719. He officially moved from Philadelphia to this property in 1721, and the house would later become known as the Trent House. Before Trent's ownership, the land belonged to the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans and was referred to as "Lenapehoking." The city of Trenton derives its name from the phrase "Trent's Town," referring to the area surrounding the Trent House. Citations Home. WilliamTrentHouse. (n.d.). https://www.williamtrenthouse.org/ |
