Title |
Villa Park Dairy Church Milk Bottle |
Description |
The bottle is clear and cylindrical, with more defined edges than a typical milk bottle, giving it a shape almost like a cube. It has a thick rim on top, with small elevated ridges running around it, and tapers significantly near the top. The images and inscriptions are all in red. On the front of the bottle, near the center, there is an image of a church, drawn from the side perspective. The church features a brick base, three front-facing windows, large Roman-style columns on the left side, a pyramid-style roof, and a cylindrical steeple at the top. To the left of the church, there are two thin trees with leaves, a picket fence, and a grassy hill. Directly below the image of the church, there is an inscription that reads, "attend CHURCH FOR Health OF Mind. Drink MILK FOR Health OF Body." The words "attend CHURCH" overlap with the steeple of the church. In the middle of the inscription, there is a picture of a hand holding a glass of milk between the words "Drink" and "MILK." The word "Drink" is written in script, and the rest of the inscription is in standard text. Below the inscription, there is an embossed inscription on the bottom of the front that reads, "SEALED." On the right side of the bottle, near the upper left corner, there is an embossed inscription that reads, "IGT." On the back of the bottle, near the center, is an image of a cow, which has reins around its snout. The cow is surrounded by a circle with an inscription that reads, "VILLA PARK DAIRY. TRENTON, N.J." Below the cow, there is another image of a hand holding a glass of milk. This hand has much longer fingernails than the one depicted on the front. There is also an inscription on the glass that reads, "You never outgrow your need for Milk." The left side of the bottle has an embossed inscription near the upper left corner that reads, "IGT," and another inscription near the bottom that reads, "REC." The top of the bottle is open, revealing the inside, which contains a white powdery substance, possibly flour. According to Ray from Villa Park, the Varga family owned Villa Park Dairy. They delivered milk to customers using light green and cream Divco milk trucks, which were easily recognizable by the cow's head painted on the side. In addition to milk, they also bottled Orangeade.
