International Pottery Blue Floral Sectioned Plate |
Description |
A white, circular plate with a blue pattern, divided into three sections by an elevated divider. The two top sections are small, while the larger section on the bottom is intended for separating food. The blue design features branches with pointy leaves and flowers. The front of the plate is slightly caved in, causing the back to be slightly elevated. A slight inner rim separates the base from the rest of the back. The base is large and occupies most of the back. In the center of the base, an engraved inscription reads, "INTERNATIONAL. S-V CHINA. TRENTON." According to Edwin Atlee Barber of the Trenton Historical Society, the article "Among the Potters" in the Trenton Evening Times, and the Potteries of Trenton Society, Harry Speeler founded the company that became International Pottery in 1860. In 1868, Speeler brought in his two sons and changed the name to Henry Speeler & Sons. In 1879, Edward Clark and James Carr purchased the company and renamed it Lincoln Pottery Company, before reorganizing it as International Pottery Company shortly afterward. The company was later owned by Burgess & Campbell and ceased operations in 1936. Citations "Among the Potters." Trenton Evening Times, Sunday, November 15, 1885. Barber, E. A. (n.d.).
