Tall Cedars of Lebanon Green Hat |
Description |
This green, pyramid-shaped hat features an image of a tree with green leaves and a brown trunk on all three sides. The trees are likely cedar trees, each with green foliage beneath them. In addition to the tree images, sides one and three of the hat display yellow inscriptions along the bottom. The inscription on side one reads, "TALL CEDARS OF LEBANON," while side three reads, "TRENTON FOREST No. 4," with the "o" underlined. The top of the hat is adorned with a yellow tassel, and a small green loop is located inside the hat. According to J. Edward Bullen, the Supreme Historian of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon from 1970 to 1975, the organization is a Masonic society founded in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1902. The name "Tall Cedars of Lebanon" references the Old Testament story of King Solomon using the cedars of Lebanon to build his temple. The society holds meetings in groups called "Forests," each led by a Grand Tall Cedar. Though the first meeting to establish the Tall Cedars of Lebanon took place in Trenton, the first Forest was in Glassboro. The Trenton Forest was the fourth Forest established. The organization's motto is "Fun, Frolic, & Fellowship," and they are known for their distinctive pyramid-shaped hats. As of 2024, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon have approximately 6,300 members, most of whom reside in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Citations: Bullen, J. E. (n.d.). Tall Cedars History.
