Anchor Pottery Pink and White Flower Bowl |
Description |
This pink and white cylindrical flower bowl features a middle portion that is significantly wider than both the top and bottom. The bowl starts off pink at the bottom, gradually transitioning to white toward the middle and top. Three images of a rose appear around the side of the bowl, each featuring a pink rose head, green leaves, light green berries, and a green stem. The rose on the left side has a smaller stem compared to the other two roses, and it lacks berries. On both the left and right sides of the bowl, an elevated design resembling a vine with leaves adds decorative detail. The top of the bowl is open, revealing a completely white interior. The inside features two raised circles at the bottom, one within the other. According to Mariel Carter, this design is meant to hold a floral frog. The bottom of the bowl is also white, with a green Anchor Pottery logo at the center. The logo consists of an anchor surrounded by a laurel wreath with a bow at the bottom. According to the Potteries of Trenton Society, the 1900 edition of the Trenton Board of Trade, and Edwin Atlee Barber of the Trenton Historical Society, Anchor Pottery was founded by James E. Norris in either 1884 or 1894. At its peak, Anchor Pottery operated 14 kilns and employed around 250 people. The company was known for producing dinnerware, toilet ware, and electrical porcelain, with a strong presence in the northeastern United States. Anchor Pottery closed its doors in 1926, and its property was sold to Fulper Pottery Company, which later became Stangl. Citations: Anchor Pottery. Potteries of Trenton Society.
