Greenwood China Company White Oval Serving Dish |
Description |
This white oval-shaped serving dish has a slightly caved-in front, which results in the back being slightly elevated. A thin rim separates the back of the plate from the rest of the base. On the right side of the base, there is an engraved Greenwood China Company logo. The logo reads "GREENWOOD CHINA. TRENTON," and is oriented sideways. According to Edwin Atlee Barber of the Trenton Historical Society, as well as the Potteries of Trenton Society and other historical sources, Stephens, Tanis & Co. established the Greenwood Pottery Company, also known as the Greenwood China Company, in Trenton, NJ, in 1868. The company specialized in hotel goods but also produced knobs, lock finishings, electric supplies, and vitrified ware. Greenwood Pottery Company ceased operations in 1931. Citations Barber, E. A.
