Anchor Pottery Floral Pitcher |
Description |
The pitcher is white and cylindrical in shape, with a floral design on both the front and back. It starts off thin at the very bottom, then widens near the upper portion of the base. The center and top of the pitcher are narrow, similar to the bottom. The floral design features green stems, leaves, and pink flower heads and buds. On the front, the design is split into two floral sprigs. The left sprig has one flower head and three buds, while the right sprig features just one flower head. The back design is divided into three sprigs: the left sprig has one flower head and one bud, the center sprig has one flower head and two buds, and the right sprig has only one flower head. The handle is on the left side and is shaped like a half-heart. The top of the pitcher is open and slightly protrudes on the right side. Both the top and bottom rims are bumpy. On the bottom of the pitcher, there is a green Anchor Pottery logo. The top of the logo includes the inscription "ANCHOR POTTERY." Below it is an image of an anchor tilted slightly to the left, with a "+" sign on either side of the anchor. Below the anchor, the inscription "TRENTON, N.J." appears, followed by a banner that reads "SEMI-PORCELAIN." According to the Potteries of Trenton Society, the 1900 edition of the Trenton Board of Trade, and Edwin Atlee Barber of the Trenton Historical Society, Anchor Pottery was founded by James E. Norris in either 1884 or 1894. At its peak, Anchor Pottery operated 14 kilns and employed around 250 people. The company was known for producing dinnerware, toilet ware, and electrical porcelain, with a strong presence in the northeastern United States. Anchor Pottery closed its doors in 1926, and its property was sold to Fulper Pottery Company, which later became Stangl. Citations: Anchor Pottery. Potteries of Trenton Society.
